The number of valid Icelandic passports stood at 345,388 at the beginning of December, reports RÚV, citing the data from the National Registry.

This means that 91.1 percent of Icelandic citizens held a valid passport. At the same time last year, the proportion was 94.9 percent, with just over 9,400 more valid passports in circulation.

In November, 3,434 ordinary Icelandic passports were issued. By comparison, 4,296 passports were issued in November last year.

Additionally, 338 Icelandic identity cards were issued last month, of which around 92.1 percent were issued as travel documents. The issuance of new identity cards, which are valid travel documents within the EEA, began in March last year.
